Directed by Patrice Bart-Williams.
THE RISING OF THE SON is a short fiction film set in the heart of Freetown, Sierra Leone, starring the Lion Base crew in their first ever on screen performance. It was written and directed by Patrice Bart-Williams who is following in his father’s footsteps, Gaston Bart-Williams, Sierra-Leone’s first international film maker.
At the first glance THE RISING OF THE SON could be seen as a spell binding gangster movie emerging from the heart of Freetown – LION BASE – hood of all hoods. However if one immerses beyond the first layer, this is Tunde’s inner story. A young man running away from his fears – embodied by a gang – empowering them by running away. The showdown is set at the most special of all hours, when the ocean gives birth to the sun….and as we all know darkness cannot exist in the presence of light.”
